CyberKnife Now at Cooper
Cooper University Hospital soon will be the only hospital in the Delaware Valley, one of only nine hospitals nationwide and one of only two hospitals on the East Coast offering both the CyberKnife® and Gamma Knife Perfexion™ radiosurgery tools for the treatment of cranial and extra-cranial tumors.

In June 2008, the Cooper Cancer Institute’s Department of Radiation Oncology will compliment its Gamma Knife technology with the addition of the CyberKnife.

Both non-invasive technologies offer patients the most advanced stereotactic radiosurgery tools available.

While the Gamma Knife allows treatment for tumors and functional abnormalities in the brain, the CyberKnife will allow Cooper radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists and medical oncologists another treatment approach for patients with tumors located within the body, including those identified in the liver, lung, prostate and spine.

Cooper’s CyberKnife Center will be conveniently located in Mount Laurel, New Jersey at 715 Fellowship Road.

The CyberKnife delivers high doses of radiation with pin-point, sub-millimeter accuracy. Because the CyberKnife can deliver radiation beams from virtually any direction, the radiation beams are focused precisely on the tumor, minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.

This precise and effective treatment offers new hope to patients who have inoperable or surgically complex tumors, as well as to those who may need an alternative to surgery.

CyberKnife benefits include:

  • Pain-free procedure – the treatment is a non-invasive alternative to surgery
  • Minimal recovery time – treatments are performed on an out-patient basis, involving little or no recovery time
  • Superior comfort – the system utilizes a frameless design, and no anesthesia is required
  • Minimal side effects – patients face minimal risk and few post-treatment complications
  • New treatment option – the advanced technology gives new hope to patients diagnosed with surgically inoperable or complex tumors
